SYDNEY, Australia - Stocks in Asia rose across the board on Friday, setting European shares alight as well.
In Japan the Nikkei 225 closed up 82.90 points or 0.40% on Friday at 20,710.91.
China's Shanghai Composite advanced 13.99 points or 0.49% to 2,897.43.
The Australian All Ordinaries rose 21.30 points or 0.32% to 6,614.30.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng jumped 130.61 points or 0.50% to 26,179.33.
The U.S. dollar was making a clean sweep of the major currencies on Friday, gaining on all fronts.
The euro fell to 1.1072 by the close of trading in Asia on Friday. The British pound weakened to 1.2205. The Japanese yen sank to 106.62, while the Swiss franc eased to 0.9863.
The Canadian dollar fell to 1.3313. The Australian dollar nudged lower to 0.6759. The New Zealand dollar remained weak at 0.6383.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was ahead 49.51 points, or 0.19%, at 26,252.24.
The Standard and Poor's dipped 1.48 points, or 0.05%, to 2,922.95.
The Nasdaq Composite fell 28.82 points, or 0.36%, to 7,991.39.
